WHO IS
IT FOR?

IMG_1023.jpg

Play Therapy is aimed at children but can be used with clients of all ages. Children find play to be their natural form of expression. It allows clients to creatively and freely explore and present thoughts, experiences, feelings and emotions. Ultimately, this process regulates and integrates children’s wounded, traumatised or challenged parts enabling them to self heal and become empowered, while also developing empathy for self and others.

Most commonly, Play Therapy is used to address some kind of emotional dysregulation. Children can find themselves overwhelmed by the things life throws at them and sometimes need a little extra support to explore and reflect on what is happening, what has gone before, what comes next or what should have happened for them.

Children’s dysregulation is always the product of a deeper issue, this could be for one of many reasons. Just SOME of the issues my clients face are listed here:

  • Coping with anxiety

  • Having been abused

  • Dealing with bereavement

  • Having sensory needs

  • Being on the autistic spectrum

  • Entering foster care

  • Becoming a refugee or asylum seekers

  • Experiencing parental divorce or separation

  • Having difficulties sleeping

  • Coping with self harming

  • Addressing gender and identity

  • Engaging in disruptive behaviour at home or school

  • Changes in the family such as a new baby/ new partner/moving house

Whatever the issue, Play Therapy provides a safe environment to explore and make sense of it.
